SKIN PREP & AFTERCARE

Preperation

Prepping your skin for a tattoo is a very important and overlooked step! The following steps are my tips and tricks to have your skin ready to get your fresh ink!

  1. Drink tons of water leading up to your appointment. Hydration is key!

  2. Exfoliate the skin 3x a week. We want to keep dead skin away from the tattoo needle!

  3. Moisturize the area everyday leading up to the appointment, except on the day of!

  4. Eat a big meal beforehand, drink lots of water, and bring snacks for longer appointments!

  5. Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting ink or stencil on.

  6. If you’re getting a sternum or rib piece, we have nipple pasties available. Be sure to bring a zip up or button up to cover your arms!

Aftercare

Taking care of your tattoo after the appointment is extremely important for the healing process!

  1. Leave your second skin on for 5-7 days.

  2. Do not submerge in water

  3. Avoid heavy exercise while you have your bandage on.

  4. To take your bandage off, run the tattoo under warm water, or take a hot shower and let the steam soften the adhesive. Peel the bandage up from the bottom and slowly pull away from the skin.

  5. Give the tattoo a wash with any unscented soap. Do this everytime you shower.

  6. Use unscented moisturizer when dry and flaky. Keep moisturzing everyday for the rest of your life! Moisturized tattoos are happy tattoos!

  7. Use sunscreen when fully healed (3 weeks) if you’re out in the sun.

  8. Enjoy your new tattoo!

If you notice any excessive redness or swelling on the actual tattoo, please remove your second skin right away and give it a wash. Try to not panic, as it could just be a reaction to the adhesive!
